Since October 2011, PCD and Chi-Mei Community University in Kaohsiung have collaborated to launch a youth exchange internship programme between Taiwan and mainland China. The initiative aims to broaden participants' social perspectives and enhance their inner strength through a 1- to 2-month immersive experience. It also seeks to deepen understanding in areas such as ecological agriculture, community building, environmental education, and sustainable living, while fostering a more autonomous and vibrant network of solidarity among civil organisations across the strait. In 2018, the Beijing Wo Qi Foundation joined as our mainland partner, working with PCD and Chi-Mei Community University to promote the programme.
By the time the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in 2020, five batches of interns had participated in the programme, totalling 57 individuals from Taiwan and mainland China. More than 40 organisations were involved in sending and hosting interns. Over the past decade, numerous people, events, and experiences have converged and intertwined, leaving significant marks on each other's lives.
We believe that the internship is merely the catalyst — igniting a lifelong journey of personal growth and fostering relationships that flourish long after the programme's conclusion. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the programme had to be temporarily suspended. During this hiatus, we conceived the idea of making a film. From planning and execution to final editing, three years have passed. The film highlights stories from several internship participants, documenting their experiences, transformations, reflections, and relationships. It captures the shared memories and emotions of all the interns, organisations, and partners involved in the programme.
With this film, we express our gratitude for all the encounters and connections, and we wish everyone continued growth. Until we meet again in the future.
