Ecological Farming Stops Pollution at the Source of Rivers

The health of the river of Jindaoxia Township in Beibei District of Chongqing is closely connected with its mode of farming. Modern use of chemical fertiliser and pesticide has resulted in river pollution as the chemicals flow into the river. Ecological farming serves to stop pollution at the source. With PCD’s support, a local community group, Chongqing Public River Environmental Protection Cultural Centre, has been promoting the importance of ecological farming among villagers. In one of their activities, programme staff showed traditional red rice varieties from Yunnan to villagers explaining that the conservation of traditional crop varieties was an important part of ecological farming.
